Somaliland Diaspora Agency calls for Somaliland Diaspora on May commemoration abroad

The Somaliland Diaspora Agency under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation calls for Somaliland Diaspora communities abroad on the commemoration of Somaliland’s 28th Anniversary 18 May 2019 under the year’s selected theme “People united in mind achieves their goal.”


“We are particularly grateful to the Somaliland Diaspora communities who are every year dedicatedly celebrating their national anniversaries of 18 May and 26 June in the various foreign countries in Western Europe, North America, North/East Africa, South/West Africa, GCC Countries, South/East Asia, and Australia.”

“We are sending congratulations to those communities who due to the Holly Month Ramadaan preceded Events in different countries as well as the more communities including Somaliland Students Association in several distant countries who are in preparation of holding events on the date 18 May 2019. Alongside the events, we are thankful and appreciative to the Diaspora Communities who are fundraising for the philanthropic projects that Somaliland Diaspora Agency has prioritized and planned.”


“This year 18 May Commemorations are taking place in nearly forty capitals and major cities in the most countries there Somaliland nationals and these include UK, Germany, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Belgium, The Netherlands, France, Italy, Ireland ,Turkey, Canada, USA, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Kenya, Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania, Egypt, South Africa, Zambia, UAE, Kuwait, Malaysia, Bangladesh, India, China, Australia, while the number may probably exceed as confirmed in the Calendar of Events Abroad. We are also thankful to the Somaliland Students Associations.”


“We are taking this opportunity to inform and encourage all the committees, organizers, activists, and the Somalilanders abroad to contribute to the prioritized philanthropic projects especially in the areas education, people disabilities needs or the special needs education, and accessibilities, mental health, TVETs, youth and sports. On basis of this, we plan to engage our Diaspora in the national development plan II implementation and enable to achieve the desired outcome as to increase Diaspora role 10% in the private investment and the public finance sectors by the year 2021.”

“Finally, the two national events in the successive months of June and May in the year are both momentous, and historic days in the history of Somaliland because of receiving independence and reassertion of the independence from the failed unity with Somalia respectively, and consequently memorializing them is not only imperative for the preservation of our country’s history but also for the cause of Somaliland – the 28 years old campaign in seeking international recognition. Within the Diaspora, it is an event we are to take the opportunity to raise awareness and educate the world in the real story, the ultimate determination, and the quest for international recognition of Somaliland by holding community events, parties, receptions, engaging prominent people and friends in your events, making demonstrations, submitting petitions to constituent parliamentarians, councilors, political parties, and the heads of states in the foreign host countries.
