The late Yuusuf Abdisalaan Ali was 24 years old Somaliland national who emigrated from Hargeisa, Somaliland and has been imprisoned in Tripoli for one year and seven months. He was one of the emigrants severely beaten and hit in the jail, and died of the beating in the body on the Saturday 8th December in Tripoli.
He was denied of treatment and any care for along time and as only freed to be taken to hospital hours before his death. He died on the way he was walking to the hospital and was put in the Morgue as a friend of his confirmed.
His fellow Somalilanders informed his parents in Hargeisa the death of their son, and told them they were arranging his burial in Libya, and the parents accepted.
However, the parents who contacted Somaliland Diaspora Agency tonight informed the body of their son is not yet buried, while all the legal requirements and permission for burial were made from the hospital and all the other institutions it concerned, they suggested the parents to go to Mogadishu MOFA and Libya Embassy in Mogadishu which is not possible.
“We are human, the person can decease where his grave lies, and especially immigrants face difficulties on their way to the destinations they intend. However, we were not expecting that Somalia could even politicize the burial of the corpes of our citizen in a foreign country, and it is shame and lawless to Libya to listen to the people of Somalia who are fighting the dead because of being Somaliland citizen and in the dealing of immigrant cases The immigrants are tortured and inhumanly treated in the prisons of Libya and the torture houses of the Libyan human traffickers, but also Somalia Mission in Tripoli has been part of the problem to the immigrants of Somaliland origin. We were reported at different times that members of Somalilanders in prisons were excluded from repatriation assistances because of the involvements of the Somalia corruptive embassies in Tripoli and similar cases in Khartoum. The latest is now an enmity and cruelty at the worst level Somalia Government and their missions are showing when the body of Yuusuf is rejected for burial for a week long in Tripoli. We are calling for the MMTF of Somaliland, and the international human rights organizations to take this issue into consideration and further investigate the cases that let alone Libya but also Somalia is violating and abusing the things in the issues of immigrants, already marginalized and victimized. We have evidences that Somalia missions in Khartoum and Libya are part of the human trafficking, and the suffering of the immigrants. We are calling for IOM and all other concerned parties to investigate in the case of late Yuusuf, and whether there is other crime beyond the delay, and we are requesting them as well to support repatriation of the Somalilanders imprisoned in Tripoli,” said the Executive Director of Somaliland Diaspora speaking to the press.
“We are also calling for the youth of Somailand not to risk their lives in such risky immigration through Libya, and to see the consequences, and how the route is deteriorating year after the other while many Somalis are currently in prisons for year and longer, and are the victims of human traffickers,” he added.
